Brain activity signature catches schizophrenia before symptoms appear

A robust new study investigating brain activity patterns in schizophrenia patients and their siblings is suggesting a specific brain “signature” could detect the condition in subjects before clinical symptoms appear. The study also hypothesizes modulat… Continue reading Brain activity signature catches schizophrenia before symptoms appear

EEG-equipped ebike hijacks your brain’s threat response system

Ebikes offer all kinds of opportunities for smart software integration – just check out the Greyp 6.1 we rode recently, which can adjust its assistance rate to keep your heart in a certain cardio zone, or auto-capture video when its AI detects you’ve d… Continue reading EEG-equipped ebike hijacks your brain’s threat response system

Inkjet-printed tattoo electrodes deliver long-term EEG measurements

European engineers have optimized a novel technology using temporary tattoo electrodes to record electroencephalography (EEG) brain activity. The technology is cheap, can be produced using an inkjet printer, and delivers EEG measurements as accurately … Continue reading Inkjet-printed tattoo electrodes deliver long-term EEG measurements

Simple EEG brain scan can tell if antidepressant drugs work for you

Following on from prior research suggesting particular brain wave patterns can signal whether or not antidepressant medication will be effective, a new study is reporting the development of an algorithm that can automatically predict patient response t… Continue reading Simple EEG brain scan can tell if antidepressant drugs work for you

EEG scan detects hidden consciousness in unresponsive brain injury patients

A landmark study from neurologists at Columbia University has described a new method to detect signs of consciousness in unresponsive brain-injured patients using a simple EEG scan. The research also suggests the EEG data can predict which pa… Continue reading EEG scan detects hidden consciousness in unresponsive brain injury patients

Brain Hacking with Entrainment

Turning A Fitness Tracker Into An EEG

Several years ago, a company called Neurosky came out with an interesting chipset meant to be put in an EEG headset. This chipset would track your brainwaves, do some fancy math, and output a few numbers based on the Delta, Gamma, Alpha, and Beta waves in your brain.
