Running a 1,900-horsepower Rimac powertrain, the Pininfarina Battista has just scooped up a swag of production car acceleration records

It seems Rimac has been beaten by its own mighty powertrain. The Rimac-powered Pininfarina Battista electric hypercar has just snatched the production car acceleration records from 0-60-120 mph (and 0-100-200 km/h), and it’s set a braking record too.

Redesigned U-Boat Worx Super Sub gets a big boost in speed

Whereas the Super Sub previously had an estimated top speed of 8 knots, it should now be capable of going up to 10 knots

It was just last year that we told you about the Super Sub, a speedy three-person electric submersible made by Dutch company U-Boat Worx. Well, the firm has now announced a revisal to its design, which will make the watercraft even faster.

Rimac Nevera destroys Tesla record to become world’s fastest EV

Already the world's quickest production car down a drag strip, the Rimac Nevera is now also officially the fastest production EV in history

Croatian electric hypercar manufacturer Rimac has officially laid claim to the outright EV top speed record, at a blistering 258 mph (412 km/h), putting a 91-mph (146-km/h) gap on the highest speed we can find verifiably recorded for a Tesla Model S Plaid.

The Mercedes-AMG One accelerates its way into the record books

Two years ago, Mercedes-AMG knocked Lamborghini off the top of the Nürburgring Nordschleife production car chart with a 6:48.047 time in a GT Black Series. It was very good news for the folks at AMG, especially since they were deep in the works on the even fiercer 1,000-hp One street-legal race car. Mercedes lost the title in 2021, when the Porsche 911 GT2 RS came roaring back to the front of the pack with a 6:43.300. But it’s 2022 now and high time for the Mercedes-AMG One F1-to-freeway hypercar to roll out of the garage and show what it’s made of. And did it ever, knocking several seconds off Porsche’s time to reorder the record sheet.

A new photonic chip design has achieved a world record data transmission speed of 1.84 petabits per second

The speed record for data transmission using a single light source and optical chip has been shattered once again. Engineers have transmitted data at a blistering rate of 1.84 petabits per second (Pbit/s), almost twice the global internet traffic per second.

Don’t blink: EV scorches 0-62 in under 1.5 seconds for world record

GreenTeam absolutely torches the 0-62 mph sprint

While electric hypercar manufacturers have taken to breaking things down to the hundredth of a second to distinguish acceleration times around or below the 2-second mark, university teams have dropped things by full tenths down into the mid 1-second area with track-only electric roadsters. In 2016, the Swiss Grimsel set the Guinness World Record for fastest 0-100 km/h electric car acceleration at 1.513 seconds. Now, the GreenTeam from the University of Stuttgart brings the record back to Germany by breaking the 1.5-sec mark.

Prototype four-gun EV charger promises full charge in 10 minutes

Zerova plans to launch next-gen EV charging solutions

Zerova Technologies, a new Taiwan-headquartered subsidiary of Phihong, made an energetic debut at this week’s eMove360° Europe show in Berlin. The company previewed a prototype 480-kW charger that promises to make EV charging more convenient than ever by slashing charging time to 10 minutes. Those who don’t have the full 10 to spare can zap nearly 100 miles (160 km) of battery power into their cars in less than half that time. The new Four Gun Charger can also charge four vehicles at the same time from a single unit.

Hennessey’s $3-mil Venom F5 Roadster directs Fury at race to 300 mph

With 1,817 hp and 1,193 lb-ft of twin-turbo 'fury' on tap, the Venom F5 Roadster promises to be exhilarating to drive at 300 or any other speed

The Bugatti Chiron became the first production car to achieve 300 mph in 2019, but the world is still waiting for the first convertible to find its way to the big 3-0-0. Debuting at this year’s Monterey Car Week, the Hennessey Venom F5 Roadster becomes the latest contender in that race. With 1,817 horsepower and an engineered top speed over 300 mph, the Roadster is just as ready to navigate its way to world record fame as the Venom F5 Coupe, only the new car promises to let its driver feel the intense speed rushing through their coiffed follicles while deafened by the thunderous roar of the engine.
