Can I get a virus by clicking on a Word document in an email if I’m using the browser preview and not downloading it?

I recently clicked on a Word .docx file but did not download it to my machine. I was able to see the contents, but it looked vaguely phish-y and am wondering now if it’s possible (and likely) to have downloaded malware by doing this.
