Desten's demo car looks like it'd be a hoot to drive

How fast does an EV charger have to be to completely eliminate range anxiety – and can our power grids cope with ultra-chargers drawing 0.9 megawatts at full blast? It seems we’re going to find out. Hong Kong company Desten is hitting the road to demo a remarkable EV battery and charger combination that’s 2.5 times faster than the industry-leading beast that ABB revealed earlier this week.

Behold, ye fast, ye foolish, ye fiscally blessed and ye family laden. Brabus has deigned to furnish worthy garages with a 900-horsepower GLE-based SUV capable of 330 km/h (205 mph). This should be sufficient for most trips to the shops, no?

Two teams, Switzerland’s SP80 and France’s Syroco, are taking aim at the world speed sailing record in 2022, with a pair of thoroughly remarkable kiteboats that both teams believe can smash previous records, targeting top speeds up to 80 knots (92 mph/148 km/h).

There are a handful of cars capable of busting out a quarter-mile sprint in less than 10 seconds, straight out of the crate – but there’s only one that can do it under nine. Rimac’s all-electric Nevera has recorded an astonishing 8.582-second run.

After all the kerfoofle surrounding its last world record claim, the SSC Tuatara has officially claimed the title of the world's fastest car. But not by much

Shelby Supercars has cemented its claim that the SSC Tuatara is the world’s fastest car – but in a weirdly underwhelming fashion. Its new record of 282.9 mph (455.3 km/h) is nowhere near the previous claim, which was sensationally debunked last year in a storm of internet controversy.

World’s fastest RC aircraft hits a stunning 548 mph – without a motor

No props, no jets, no rockets – California’s Spencer Lisenby just broke the world speed record for remote controlled aircraft, taking an unpowered RC glider transonic at 548 mph (882 km/h) using nothing but the wind. Well, that and an incredible degree of skill in a highly dangerous technique called dynamic soaring. And while it’s more or less an extreme hobby at the moment, he’s got some very interesting plans for the technique and the technology behind it.
