World’s highest-efficiency hydrogen system scales up for mass production

Hysata claims its capillary-feed electrolyzer is the world's most efficient, using some 20% less energy to produce hydrogen while also being cheaper to install and maintain

You have to throw some energy away to make hydrogen – typically around 20-30%, even with the best systems, which use around 52.5 kWh of energy to create a kilogram of hydrogen that can store 39.4 kWh of energy. It’s a waste of renewable energy, and it contributes to the high cost of a green fuel option that’s really struggling to compete against fossils and batteries in many applications.

Stacking Solar Cells Is A Neat Trick To Maximise Efficiency

Solar power is already cheap and effective, and it’s taking on a larger role in supplying energy needs all over the world. The thing about humanity, though, is that we …read more Continue reading Stacking Solar Cells Is A Neat Trick To Maximise Efficiency

Bumpy solar cells could harvest up to 66% more energy

Solar cell efficiency may get a bump from bumps. New research suggests that building tiny domes into the surface of organic solar cells could boost their efficiency by up to two-thirds, while capturing light from a wider angle.Continue ReadingCategory:… Continue reading Bumpy solar cells could harvest up to 66% more energy

Hyundai’s “Active Air Skirts” reduce highway drag by 2.8%

Hyundai has developed a new active aerodynamics system for electric vehicles, in the form of “active air skirts” ahead of the front wheels that can increase downforce and stability, while reducing drag and improving highway range.Continue ReadingCatego… Continue reading Hyundai’s “Active Air Skirts” reduce highway drag by 2.8%

Continental takes unusual approach with the Conti CityPlus concept tire

Continental has unveiled a new concept tire at the IAA Mobility show in Hanover, Germany. Called the Conti CityPlus, it takes an unusual approach to “tire efficiency,” focusing on urban use rather than highway driving.Continue ReadingCategory: Automoti… Continue reading Continental takes unusual approach with the Conti CityPlus concept tire

Continuously variable ebike transmission promises up to 20% more range

The Orbit Drive promises an ebike transmission, built into the motor housing, that lasts for thousands of miles without maintenance, boosts efficiency and range, allows regenerative braking, and comes out lighter than most ebike drive systems.Continue … Continue reading Continuously variable ebike transmission promises up to 20% more range

Power plant condenser coating could cut 460 million tons of CO2 per year

Weaning the world off fossil fuels will take some time, so finding ways to make energy generation more efficient is still important. Scientists at the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign have developed a new coating for steam condenser pipes that, … Continue reading Power plant condenser coating could cut 460 million tons of CO2 per year
