AI system could locate pilots of intrusive drones

When an unauthorized drone is being flown in a restricted airspace, the authorities understandably want to locate its operator. A new AI-based system may allow them to do so, succeeding where other technologies fail.Continue ReadingCategory: Drones, Te… Continue reading AI system could locate pilots of intrusive drones

AI system designed to aid – or perhaps replace – human lifeguards

Lifeguards do play a vital role in the prevention of drownings, but at large busy beaches, they can’t always keep track of all the swimmers at all times. That’s where Sightbit is designed to come in, as it uses artificial intelligence to catch what lif… Continue reading AI system designed to aid – or perhaps replace – human lifeguards

Light Blade tech uses lasers to shoot down airborne incendiaries

In the past couple of years, both bomb-carrying balloons and brush fire-causing flaming kites have been launched from Gaza into neighboring Israel. A new system uses lasers to shoot them down, and it could even be used to neutralize drones.Continue Rea… Continue reading Light Blade tech uses lasers to shoot down airborne incendiaries

Haptic vest guides working dogs by remote control

Among other things, trained dogs are capable of sniffing out bombs, locating buried survivors at disaster sites, assisting the physically challenged, and performing other important duties. They can’t, however, always see or hear their handler… Continue reading Haptic vest guides working dogs by remote control

Can a CT scan be hacked? New research pushes doctors to patch their imaging devices

Health care providers and manufacturers of medical imaging devices (MIDs) need to be more vigilant when it comes to protecting their equipment, researchers from Ben-Gurion University say in a new research paper. The paper, published this month, details how researchers found that the devices are particularly vulnerable to threats that can ultimately result in harm to patients. “MIDs are increasingly connected to hospital networks, making them vulnerable to sophisticated cyber-attacks targeting the devices’ infrastructure and components, which can disrupt digital patient records, and potentially jeopardize patients’ health,” the paper’s abstract says. At particular risk are computed tomography (CT) machines because of their widespread use in acute care imaging, the researchers say. The researchers simulated cyberattacks on machines that conduct CT scans and their host computers and came away with several major risks. By gaining access to the configuration files on a CT machine’s host computer, hackers can change the way a […]
