Airbus’ high-endurance stratosphere drone, the Zephyr S, has set a new altitude record for an Unmanned Aerial System (UAS) in its class, soaring to 76,100 ft (23,915 m) in the skies over Arizona during two flights totaling 36 days aloft.Continue Readin… Continue reading Zephyr S pseudo-satellite drone hits record altitude of 76,100 ft
Airbus has been quiet on the eVTOL front since its original CityAirbus multirotor and Vahana programs shut down, but at its “Pioneering Sustainable Airspace” summit, the company released details and images of a new electric air taxi it expects to get c… Continue reading Airbus’ return to the eVTOL air taxi is a bit of a head-scratcher
Airbus is expanding the capabilities of its Flightlab helicopter designed to test out next-generation aviation technologies, by incorporating some advanced hardware geared toward autonomous flight. This will equip the demonstrator with the ability to t… Continue reading Airbus adds autonomous tech to its Flightlab aerial laboratory
Long-haul aviation, like everything else in the human world, needs to be totally decarbonized, and in the race to zero emissions for international airliners, liquid-hydrogen powertrains look like one of the only viable possibilities.Continue ReadingCat… Continue reading Airbus pioneers a superconducting powertrain cooled by liquid hydrogen
Europe is getting into the space manufacturing race as the European Commission awards Airbus a €3-million (US$3.5-million) contract to prepare a low-Earth orbit demonstration project. Currently an A/B1 phase study contract, the PERIOD (PERASPERA (short… Continue reading EU contracts Airbus to develop in-orbit satellite manufacturing concept
Right now, the entire electric VTOL scene is a house built on a foundation of faith. Faith that the hordes of researchers beavering away on next-gen battery technology will achieve an enormous energy density breakthrough, or faith that hydrogen fuel ce… Continue reading Ascendance proposes a long-range, low-emission hybrid VTOL air taxi
Airbus Helicopter’s Flightlab flying laboratory based on the H130 copter has taken to the air for the first to perform a series of platform-agnostic in-flight tests of new systems aimed at ushering in next-generation aircraft technologies.Continue Read… Continue reading Airbus Helicopters’ Flightlab takes to the sky to test new technologies
With the move towards electric aviation comes new opportunities to explore what a powertrain looks like, and Airbus is experimenting with a new design that builds entire hydrogen propulsion units, tanks and all, into detachable pods along the wings.Con… Continue reading Airbus proposes detachable hydrogen propulsion pods for aircraft
ESA has awarded Airbus a €491 million (US$522 million) contract to design and build the Earth Return Orbiter, which will return the first samples collected from the Red Planet by NASA’s Perseverance rover to Earth.Continue ReadingCategory: Space, Scien… Continue reading Airbus to build spacecraft that will return first Mars samples to Earth
According to a recent international study, aviation is responsible for 3.5 percent of all human activities that drive climate change. Airbus is looking to a cleaner future for the commercial aircraft industries, where hydrogen powers the (local) zero-e… Continue reading Airbus eyes hydrogen-powered future with commercial aircraft concepts
