Venus will receive two visitors from Earth next week

Venus, often referred to as

Next week, two deep-space probes will make flybys of Venus within 30 hours of each other on their way to the inner reaches of the solar system. On August 9, the Solar Orbiter will pass by the planet often called “Earth’s twin”, followed by the BepiColombo Mercury orbiter on August 10.

Water study may wash out hopes for life on Venus

Hopes of finding life on Venus had already been dashed, but now a new study may have hammered the last nail into the coffin. New modeling of water activity on different solar system planets has found that Venus would be too dry for even the most extrem… Continue reading Water study may wash out hopes for life on Venus

Modern-day Venus may play host to an alien form of tectonic activity

A new study has revealed that tectonic activity on Venus may have caused sections of the planet’s upper crust to become fragmented into smaller bodies that, over vast swathes of time, barge past each other like chunks of pack ice on a body of water. Th… Continue reading Modern-day Venus may play host to an alien form of tectonic activity

NASA selects two new Venus missions to investigate why it’s so awful

Venus should have been Earth’s twin, but clearly that’s not the case today, with its thick poisonous atmosphere and barren rocky surface. Now, as part of its Discovery Program, NASA has selected two new missions to Venus to investigate where it all wen… Continue reading NASA selects two new Venus missions to investigate why it’s so awful

Biosignature on Venus likely to be mistake, says new study

Back in September last year, astronomers made a splash when they announced the discovery of phosphine in the atmosphere of Venus, which could be a sign of life. But a new study has found that a different gas could explain the signature detected, and th… Continue reading Biosignature on Venus likely to be mistake, says new study

Venus may have been without active tectonic plates for a billion years

Venus may not have had Earth-like tectonic plates for the last billion years, according to the results of a new study. Instead, the planet, which is often referred to as Earth’s twin, may be covered in a single thick outer plate.Continue ReadingCategor… Continue reading Venus may have been without active tectonic plates for a billion years
