Classified data key to new acquisition approach, Federal CISO says

The strength of a new federal acquisition council on supply-chain security lies in its ability to directly involve classified information in agencies’ decisions to buy products and services, according to a senior White House official. The new regime contrasts from previous “whack-a-mole” approaches that were confined to the unclassified space, Federal Chief Information Officer Grant Schneider said Thursday at the 2019 Security Through Innovation Summit, presented by McAfee. He chairs the nascent interagency Federal Acquisition Security Council, which was established by a law signed by President Donald Trump in December. NSO Group founders buy back their spyware company

The founders of NSO Group, a controversial Israeli spyware vendor, said Thursday that they had re-acquired the company from private equity firm Francisco Partners. NSO Group co-founders Shalev Hulio and Omri Lavie led the acquisition and promised more growth for the company, which reported dozens of customers and $250 million in revenue in 2018. NSO Group did not reveal the terms of the deal, which was supported by Novalpina Capital, a London-based firm. Sources had told CyberScoop in June of 2017 that Francisco Partners was asking for more than $1 billion for NSO Group. Francisco paid $120 million for a majority stake in the company in 2014. NSO Group says it lawfully sells its surveillance technology to governments to combat terrorism and organized crime. ForeScout acquires OT security firm SecurityMatters for $113 million

ForeScout Technologies, a network security company that focuses on internet-of-things, operational technology and cloud computing, announced on Thursday that it acquired OT security company SecurityMatters for $113 million. With the increasing convergence of IT and OT, the purchase is meant boost ForeScout’s ability to deliver security in enterprise and industrial environments. “ForeScout’s acquisition of SecurityMatters is a natural fit as it takes us deeper into a market where we have an established foothold and are seeing explosive customer demand,” said ForeScout CEO Michael DeCesare, in a press release. The deal comes after the two companies have been partnering for about a year. Veracode sold to Thoma Bravo for $950 million

Thoma Bravo, an American private equity firm, announced on Monday that it is purchasing application security testing company Veracode from Broadcom for $950 million in cash. Based in Burlington, Massachusetts, Veracode is a software-as-a-service (SaaS) company that helps software developers detect security issues in their applications at various points in the software development cycle.
